Brant Point Shellfish Hatchery Self-guided Tour
The Town of Nantucket Natural Resources Department Brant Point Shellfish Hatchery has long been a popular area of interest for onlookers and tourists. Visitors to the historic Brant Point Lighthouse often wonder what goes on inside the Boathouse that was first constructed for the United States Coast Guard in 1931. Since the building’s renovation into a state-of-the-art shellfish hatchery in 2016, the Town Shellfish Biologists and other Natural Resources Staff have welcomed frequent visits from the public. Unfortunately, it is difficult to maintain shellfish feeding schedules and regular maintenance while also acting as tour guides for spontaneous visitors. Now this newly installed self-guided tour will help visitors gain a better understanding and appreciation for hatchery actives and initiatives without interruptions to research and regular maintenance.
